Before going into full detail on the difference between NoFollow and DoFollow backlinks, let us first try to understand what backlinks is.

What are Backlinks

Backlink is simply a link pointing to another web page. They are also called incoming links or inbound links.

The search engines like Google and Bing make use of backlinks as a signal for ranking websites.

When one site links to another, it means the website believes that the content is linking to is worthy and informative.

High-quality backlinks are links coming from high authority websites, this can help to increase a website’s visibility in the search engine results page as well as its search position.

Search engines such as Google and Bing consider backlinks votes for a specific page. This means that pages with more backlinks have more tendency to have high organic search engine rankings, all things being equal.

Nofollow Backlinks

A nofollow link is one type of link that prevents search engine bots from following a particular link.

It means that if a website is linking back to you with a nofollow attribute (which does not pass link juice). Only humans can follow the links when they click on them.

The nofollow link is unhealthy for search engine optimization.

If your site is getting several no-follow, the number of your backlinks will increase. But it will have little or no effecting your site SEO.

Example of a Nofollow Link: <a href=”http://www.yoursite.com/” rel=”nofollow”>YourSite</a>

Dofollow Backlinks

Dofollow links, on the other hand, allow search engines to follow the linked website, thereby giving them link juice and a backlink.

If your site is linked with “dofollow” both Search Engine and Humans will be able to follow the link.

The dofollow will be more effective for the search engine when you use the targeted keyword and anchor text.

It is the do-follow link that improves a site’s ranking. The do-follow becomes more effective when it is coming from a site with higher domain authority.

Example of a Dofollow Link: <a href=”http://www.yoursite.com/”>YourSite</a>
